Education Targets

This program aims to provide students with a thorough grounding in the theoretical and practical aspects of the computer science discipline necessary for successful careers as system designers and builders in the continually developing information technology environment such as database system, web and embedded applications, multimedia information systems and so on. The program prepares students into professionals to be engaged in computer practice and theories research in enterprises, government institutions and administrative department.

 
Specialized Knowledge And Ability

The program is focus on developing high-level and compound personnel. In teaching process, we play special emphasis on the comprehensive practice training of two major technologies in computer science: database and computer network. We attach great importance to practical skills training in database technique especially in Oracle database. We have professional teaching and practical bases with rich teaching power and teaching experience. The course Database Principles has been listed as the excellent course in Shanghai. Recently with the course development and application extension, we incorporate computer network and embedded technique related contents into the major courses so that students have broad space to develop themselves and have better job opportunities.

In teaching process, we attach particular importance to the comprehensive practice training of two major technologies in software engineering: database and software engineering technologies. Graduate Education
Computer Science and Technology at Donghua University was one of the first programs of its kind in China and continues to be one of the research-intensive Computing Science departments in the country. Our 62 faculty members are actively involved in a wide spectrum of research areas, including: Pervasive and Mobile Computing, Networks and Security, Computer Graphics, Image Processing, Multimedia Technology, Database Systems, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and etc. Each research area within the School of Computer Science and Technology has a lab that brings together researchers focused in that area. Donghua University is a research-intensive university and the School of Computer Science and Technology is known to have a conscious focus on interdisciplinary research.
The School has received various research funding and projects, including: National Science Foundation projects, national innovative projects, Ministry of Education projects, Euro Union cooperation project, Ministry of Information project, Shanghai Science Committee international cooperation projects, Shanghai Science Committee projects, Shanghai Education Committee projects, and projects from different enterprises. The research funding is about 300 million RMB per year in recent years. The School has received a number of awards issued by Shanghai Government and Shanghai Education Committee for the research done by our faculty and graduate students.
Faculty members in our school have published extensively in the fields of Pervasive and Mobile Computing, Networks and Security, Computer Graphics, Image Processing, Multimedia Technology, Database Systems, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and etc. More than 40 books and 1000 technical papers authored or co-authored by our faculty members have been published in international or domestic conferences and journals. The school owns 12 national patents based on our innovative research work.
The School and its research centers are committed to provide state-of-the-art computing facilities for research and instrucional purposes. Associated research centers include Networking and Security Center, Pervasive and Mobile Computing Center, Textile Image Processing Center, High Performance Computing Center, Multimedia System Center, Joint Database System Center of DHU and Dameng Corp., Data Engineering Lab, AI Center, e-Fashion Designing Center.
